How to Get an Electrician Certificate

Can you imagine yourself back in the time when there was no electricity? Back when many were actually afraid of turning on a light at night? It is almost hard to imagine ourselves there, as we have all grown so accustomed to being able to flip on a switch and have instant access to light. Electricity has become not only common place, but a necessity which is why becoming an electrician is a smart idea. Before you can begin your profession in most places however, you will need to get an electrician certificate.

There are a number of steps required in becoming an electrician. To start with, you will be required to take the appropriate classes and learn all about electrical theory and the basics, as well as building codes, safety, maintenance, equipment, and other requirements. After basic schooling, most areas required that one must serve as an apprentice to a master electrician. Learning from someone in a hands-on way really helps you avoid the pit falls and learn all of the tricks of the trade. Each state, and sometimes city, will have its own rules on the length of the apprenticeship, but it usually lasts between two to five years. You may also be required to work with what is called a journeyman electrician, which is someone with a lot of experience, usually an upwards of 6,000 hours and roughly 140 hours in classroom training.

One of the main reasons for the goal of earning an electrician certificate is the fact that you will be hired more often. When someone is looking for an electrician, they want to know that the person is experienced and meets all the safety standards. By showing that you have worked hard, passed all requirements, and earned your certificate, people will feel safer and more trusting that you are the person for the job.

Once you have earned your basic certification, you may also want to find out about advanced certification so that you can continue to climb the ladder of success. Not all states offer different levels of certification, so find out about the state you live in. Furthering your education, staying current on information and earning even more advanced degrees will make you an electrician that man will seek out.

The demand for quality electricians is growing, and expected to continue to grow at a steady pace over the coming years. Get your electrician certificate today and be on your way to a successful career!
